Contour is garbage. They have to reboot the box every night. So if you have a picture freeze that means that it can't go 24 hours without rebooting. Pathetic
Because of the midnight reboots you can't record during the night, it will reboot during the recording. It's pretty much a monopoly in Vegas. This or a dish. Cox is the worst cable that I have ever had. That's close to 40 years.

I've decided to dump their cable TV services and find some other alternative. They raised my bill from $145 to $188.99, that's internet & TV only for ONE PERSON, how outrageous is that?. When asked how to lower my bill their offered solutions were more complicated & again the different answers. What a joke. I'll figure out a better solution and dumping them at 8:00 this morning when their customer service line opens.

I knew 40 years ago we'd be dealing with this underhanded company. As soon as they started to phase out the local access facilities in most cities, it was going to come to this. Having local access was part of the contract with the states and cities. Now here we are, they've become a monopoly in most markets, charge way too much for their half-assed service, customer service is a joke. Why should they care. We've financed their ability to grow into a phone service and internet giant. The say they're better than satellite tv, but their signals break down and go out completely on a too regular basis. They always want to send a technician to your house to check the signal, hoping to charge you the $70 fee. We're screwed, they know it, the government knows it, we know it and there's not a damn thing we can do about it. They are thieves, they take advantage and worst of all, they are heartless asswipes walking a thin line of domestic terrorism. Good business practices, my ass.

Avoid this company at all costs. I have been having connection issues since April, it is now October 17th. I can't even maintain a 6Mbps upload, only hitting about 3-4 Mbps.

I'm paying for 30Mbps upload speed.

I have had 16 technician visits, 2 FCC complaints, and ZERO bill credits. Cox representatives have told me they cannot issue a bill credit until the problem is resolved. However, every time I call they start the process over with a brand-new trouble ticket. So every tech that shows up says "the problem isn't in your house" and leaves.

On Cox's recommendation, I have now purchase THREE new modems and replaced all of the wiring in my house. Still no resolution.

I'm paying for the fastest bandwidth package, WITH unlimited data, WITH the "Complete Care Plan". $130/month for a connection that doesn't function properly (this price is ONLY for Internet, no TV or Phone!)

If you live in an area that ONLY offers Cox Internet (like I do) -- Move. Find a city with an ISP that cares about their products and customers. Go with a Fiber connection! I will never live somewhere that only has Cox again. This connection issue directly affects my home business and side job, and the internet problems have eaten into my business as well as equipment costs.

How many times will a Cox tech tell you it is your lines or connections on the inside of your house when you can run a direct connection from the demarcation point and still show them you aren’t in the acceptable range of -5 to 5 dBmV according to the tier 3 technician that came out. He had to put in a 12 dBmV booster on my line in the house until they came back out and dug up their box in the yard to replace a part or something.
That worked for so long and my service went to shit again. Moved up to Ultimate and then Gigablast to get the download speed I need and those are inconsistent too. Getting a Service Interuption notice when I sign into my account that nobody at Cox has EVER made an attempt to fix without me having to call them about it. Then we start with it is your internal connection bullshit again.
So you have to wonder if the majority of the technicians are that incompetent or that Cox doesn’t want to replace parts of their infrastructure that is causing the issue.
Although there are some technicians that are pretty bad, I would bet that it is that Cox doesn’t want to replace faulty equipment until a certain number of customers that use that piece of equipment complains.

3. as you may know a lot of you guys have the internet set up with a third party modem, what does that mean? that you have your modem purchased from another place that is not Cox and is not a rental one, guess what? Cox is not responsible for that modem if you have problems with the internet we can try to troubleshoot and try every single thing you can imagine but if it does not work, and we found out is the modem, please and really PLEASE contact your manufacturer, this is not our fault, also if you receive an appointment and there are charges after it, is because the technician found our the problem was the modem or a wired at your home and you do not have the insurance to cover the appointment so guess what? there will be a charge, why? really simple, the modem is not a rented one and is YOUR modem, believe me, if it was a rental one we will take care of everything.

Yes, Cox blocks some ports in your service in order to protect you, again we are doing this for you! But if you really need to unlock them to play your games or use your third-party applications, YOU CAN DO IT, but we do not have the tools to do it, if we have them we will do it for you in just minutes, but this is a process that is done by the modem manufacturer, not us! So please, PLEASE, understand us, we try to explain this, if you need more information on this I will be happy to leave links here for you:

well, I am not going to go deeper into this topic, I am going to be really clear, if you do not pay, your account will be disconnected, that is how it works, and yes we understand that you create a payment arrangement, but guess what, we have agents that actually are new or they use the incorrect code in the arrangement, and yes you can be angry about that, absolutely! You are right, but the agent who is taking the chat or the call is not responsible, please ask for an escalation but do not insult your agent, he is trying to provide you with the best options, and guess what? The options in this case 1.pay the due balance, or 2. call collections THEY ARE THE ONLY ONES WITH THE PLATFORM TO RECONNECT SERVICES AFTER A DISCONNECTION ORDER IS COMPLETED. I know it is a big inconvenience but is the true, you want more lies or an honest agent?

Unbelievable! I was a cox customer for over 15 years. In April, I moved to a state that cox does not service so instead of transferring my service, I cancelled it... but they have no record of that, and somehow that is my fault, and the only argument they have to have charged me for 2 extra months. In the craziness of the move, I returned the equipment late but I thought that we'd come to an understanding that a "valued" customer should not have to pay for service not received. 3 months later... Apparently we had not... I was quite surprised that their understanding was to send me to collections. Another hour on the phone with them and there is absolutely "nothing they can do" to remove those charges. And would you believe that the rep's supervisor (who did nothing other than repeat what the rep said) was my only recourse because apparently, if there is an unresolved issue, there is absolutely no-one above the supervisor that can even be contacted, and there is nothing I can do about it other than pay for service I can prove I did not receive to have it removed from my credit report. So that's Cox's definition of customer service. Potential new customers BEWARE!

After 2 months of giving me no information followed by information that we contradicted by the next person I talked to followed by every other person telling me they couldn't talk to me because I'm not on the account I finally just disputed an $81 credit card charge. They didn't respond by fighting the credit card dispute and providing documentation as to why I really owed the money. No they just re-billed the $81, tacked on a $25 service fee and turned my dead mom over to collections.

Try and talk to a supervisor about that issue. No way.

My iPhone downloads so slowly at times (just stops in the middle of downloading various pages) that I find it better to just switch off the wifi and get better speed with T-mobile. I've got a topnotch modem, a top-rated mesh wifi and they worked fine for many months. I'm fed up with Cox!

First: Incompetent customer facing personnel. They either have no training program, or they need to clean house in their training/onboarding department. At the very least Cox could train their employees how to transfer a call without disconnecting. Also, how about give your employees access to your own web site so they can educate themselves about your products and services? Hint... fiber Gigablast does NOT need a cable modem so have them stop trying to lease one to me.

Next: Reps are either dishonest, or don't have access to good information. If the latter, they should simply state "I don't know", but since I continually get incorrect information from them I'm going with dishonest. I called to confirm that service was available to my new address, was told yes... WRONG! Someone pulled the coax out of the conduit from the Cox side of the equation. Construction team not in possession of the technology to push new cable/fiber through a conduit so their solution... wait for it... trench in a new conduit from my address, down the street through two neighbors yards. LOL, incompetence yet again.

Next: When will the above happen? According to the first letter, last week. According to the first dozen reps I spoke with after it didn't happen when promised within 30 days. And according to the last rep I spoke with, sometime in December. Asked for definitive information, twice issue was "escalated" and I was guaranteed a call back from an "escalation supervisor" within 48 hours.... still waiting Cox.

The only reason this company can get away with this is because we allow them to be a monopoly. Simple truth is there aren't other competitors to choose from because Cox has been aggressive in resisting competition. Municipal fiber is the answer to this nonsense, do some Googling on what Cox has to say about those efforts.

Everyone who works for them is complicit. If you choose to work for them, you suck too.

My new bill charged me for the television, CSR says their is nothing on my account for free one years Contour Wi-Fi, $35.00 a month. Contour Wi-Fi television, 3 C-Span channels, a variety of shopping, Spanish Channels and garbage that no one would watch for free. Watch out if COX gives you a free program, get an e-mail confirmation with the ID of the NO CSR who made the deal. Cox stinks!!!

I have just attempted to use a VPN as well, to protect my privacy, and Cox seems to have blocked that as well, the internet breaks as soon as I set it on.

Cox SUCKS.. I had called them 2.5 months ago to cancel my internet because of their high prices. The rep on the phone talks me into just turning it off for a couple months while I’m gone for work....

She had told me when I returned at the end of July they would double my internet speed to 30mbps and lower my monthly bill from $65 to $45 per month. I return at the end of July and restart my internet service. My internet works worse than ever before. I log into my account to see if he upgrade had gone through. I see my monthly bill is still $65 and my speed is still 15mbps. I contact them via the chat line. After 15 min on the chat line with a rep he says he can’t figure it out so now I need to call in. I call In and go through all their b s computer prompts. I get a rep on the phone who after 10 minutes of her trying to sell me services decides she can’t help me either. On to the next rep. They finally decide to figure out what they can do for me since apparently the girl I had talked to 2.5 months earlier had lied to me about the pricing she quoted. The rep says they can’t do it for less than $57 a month for what the girl had promised for $45. I told them I would not pay more than what I was promised by one of their reps. They came back at $52 a month. I told them again $45 was what I was quoted. They tried to negotiate again to $47.50 a month for 30 mbps. I told them I can’t belive they won’t hold up their end of the pricing I was promised by one their staff. They said they couldn’t and she should not have told me hat price. Today I've reset it 10 times and it still isn't working. There are no emails or anything about the service being down today and other people I know have their internet working fine. We don't pay for their best options, but that doesn't mean we should get nothing at all. Everytime I check the speed we're getting it's 10 mb/s or less. We pay for more than that. I know their website says it's a max of whatever you're paying for. But you should be able to get more than 10 mb/s. It's bullshit.

I had been a satisfied cox customer for years but when Verizon came into the neighborhood I decided to give them a try in part because of the great deal they offered. I stayed with Verizon for about four years and on a whim checked on deals with Cox. They offered a significant cost savings and even though they couldn’t match Verizon’s Internet speed I thought it wouldn’t be that significant a changed after all I had always been happy with them before. I was wrong on a couple of accounts, first the tech 1 didn’t know what he was doing, my wife stayed home for the install. When I came home the first thing I noticed was that he hadn’t even put the cover back on the box on the side of the house. Next, more than half the channels didn’t work and the modem was in the living room. My house was wired for Internet when built and all the wiring meets in a panel in the master bedroom, I asked my wife if he had even asked where the previous modem had been, he hadn’t. I called customer service and they did their thing on line to try and get the additional channels to work. Tech 2 came a couple of days later and did a terrific job, he said the previous tech missed a number of steps. Yeah all the channels are available, later I noticed the Internet is spotty depending on time of day. I have had the service about a month know it is a significant downgrade from Verizon. I have done several tests with Ookla, the norm seems to be about 30mbps vice the 300mbps I am paying for. A number of times I cannot connect watch a Netflix video or the video quality is poor because of poor bandwidth. On demand viewing may take several attempts before I can watch a show. Internet access is so bad compared to what I remember a few years ago unless it improves I will definitely go back to Verizon. I can not recommend cox right now. I don’t know what a happened with them I used to recommend them all the time.

Got tired of the monthly rates going up so I called Cox to cancel all services (Phone, internet, and cable). Told them I was happy to pay the $270 early cancellation fee to be done with them. They transferred to the cancellation department who right before cancelling the service offered to lower the monthly rate to $143.00 on a two year plan. I stupidly accepted. The $143 a monthly lasted maybe 2 months and they raised my monthly rate to even more than I was paying before: $183 a month. Only a government mandated monopoly gets away with treating its customers this way. Once Fios is allowed into Norfolk, Virginia, Fios tells me they will pay my early cancellation fees.

Been with Cox Internet for over 4 years, I had the 100mb plan which started out at 79.99 a month. Over that time my bill gradually increased with reduced speeds. Then they put a data cap on me. Move to present time my bill has been over $200 a month with limited service. Finally Centurylink offers their service in my area, and in a h2h speed test my cheap $45 a month price for life plan (25mb) runs consistently between 20-23mbs. Sounds like a downgrade in service right?
Well my $200 a month Cox service was between 15-18mbs which got poorer when the removal of net neutrality kicked in.

Now they are in my rear view mirror, never again will Cox rape me

Just signed up with Cox because I was fed up with AT&T. I was a "returning customer" and was welcomed back with open arms. Everything was great until the install tech showed up.

Just signed up with Cox because I was fed up with AT&T. I was a "returning customer" and was welcomed back with open arms. Everything was great until the install tech showed up.

He walked around the house for about a minute and told me to hire an electrician to wire the house. There was nothing he could do. A quick call to Mr. Sales Rep and I was assured that would not be necessary. An in-house field tech would assess the situation and get things going. Well, he showed up and sure enough, no electrician needed. Just a few holes in the walls and you'll be couch surfing in no time. How's day after tomorrow?

Install attempt #2.
Cox tech ( not a contractor) shows up and gets the overall picture of what needs to happen. No communication from tech #1....strange! Tech #2 gets to work and I hear lots of banging and drilling. Tech #2 has 5 hours allocated for this install. 10 hours and 2 Contour boxes later, I have very high speed internet and about 50% of the channels I am paying for! Box #1 was "stuck" on channel 2. The tech went and picked up a new box from another tech in the area. Box #2 would randomly decide what channels it would receive and what ones it wouldn't. Oh, and it would change every few minutes! Tech #2 throws his hands up in disgust and gets a line tech scheduled for the next day, convinced there's a problem at the pole.

Line Tech
Mr. Line Tech shows up and after spending a good 30 minutes at the pole, comes in to check the connection in the house. Much to my surprise, after much fiddling around with his gizmos, he declares my connections are all perfect and the problem is the box! "You need to run up to the Solutions Store and swap it out". Really! So it's now my responsibility to complete the installation?!?

I call Mr. Sales Rep and let him know I was not a happy customer and I was about to remove all equipment from my home and toss it in the street! After being assured that it would be "made right", I head off to the Solutions Store. After a brief wait, I am served by a very pleasant rep that swapped the box out in record time. I happily head home to plug it in and end the nightmare.

Back Home
Now I'm not the smartest guy in the world, but I can surely hook up a cable box. So imagine my surprise when I finish the last connection I am greeted by a blank screen. I go back and double check everything. It's all connected properly. Nothing on the screen. Just for fun, I hook up the box using RCA cables instead of the HDMI cable that came with it. Now I have a setup screen!!! Great! My new (third) box is defective and it will need to be taken back to the store to be swapped out!

Store
I head back to the store and am greeted by the same rep. She is slightly confused. Weren't you just here??? Yes I was and I would like to give this box back to you...it's broken! After explaining the situation, she trots off to the back room and after an extended wait, she returns with a new box. She explains that she's tested it and everything is fine. Oh boy!!!

Back Home Again
Guess what? You guessed it! After hooking everything up again, I get, (drumroll please) A BLANK SCREEN!!! Now I didn't check the serial number, but I'm guessing she just gave me back the same damn box!!! Well, it's after 7 on July 3rd and the store is closed. I hook it up using my trusty RCA cables and enjoy watching TV. I did let Mr. Sales Rep know that after 4 boxes I still do not have an acceptable installation and he assures me that both he and his supervisor will take action as soon as they can Thursday. He apologizes profusely and wishes me a good evening.

Absolutely nothing happens!

Friday
After giving Mr. Sales Rep and his boss plenty of time to formulate a solution, I text him. I am told that they have "researched thoroughly and found no problem on our end." I am also informed that if I am unwilling to continue to go back and forth to the store until I get a good box and demand that someone from Cox actually complete the installation, there could be a service charge involved! My wife, in her infinite wisdom, has hidden all of my guns and ammunition.

I'm also a Cox agent I work in account services whenever I speak with angry customers I get pretty bad ones you'd be surprised to know that we as agents are human as well we aren't robots guys when we say the charges on the account are valid there's no need to lie and say "I didn't purchase this" or "I refuse to pay this" saying that you won't pay your bill is like shooting yourself in the foot and screwing your credit score if your bill isn't paid.... I myself have explained this to countless people who think that their bill will magically go away when frankly that's not how it works by any means for example an installation of any service by a technician is not covered by our new plan Cox Complete Care or Cox Service Protection Plan (grandfathered as of I believe early this year) only service appointments are.... If a charge for a trouble call is on the bill and customers have CCC it can be removed easily we have to review notes and the account plus any work orders that have been done to anybodys account we cannot offer credits also if an outage for services is currently happening at any point in time once issues have been resolved then backdating can occur... essentially I and the rest of my billing reps can tell you that are those few who are very good over the phone and we can go over their bill and account with them but then there are a majority of those who look to lower their bill or dispute their charges our company will not always take abuse from customers who act ridiculous on the phone I'm not defending the company or customers by any means my opinion of the circumstances are non biased at this point in time but I can tell you that working to try and resolve issues for these customers is a struggle when we agents can't get a word in if everybody is screaming on the phone and not acting civil....acting civil will always resolve escalating to a supervisor won't get anyone anywhere believe me I've dealt with it countless times...my perspective is that customers who hear the magic word "Supervisor" their issue will automatically be resolved that's not always how it works...a majority of the time issues only get worse....believe me guys we are only human 😒 professionalism will resolve the issue so much faster I promise :)

I am a cox tech support agent still and only by necessity until I'm find something that will pay me just as much but yes most of everyone complaining has a right too... You dont know how many times we (the good techs) attempt to schedule a tech and find out they didn't even try knocking or calling the customer... and next agent will just get an upset customer when they call in.. I used to love working here when I could actually help a customer out with pricing and selling.. yes even tech support is forced to sell.. or we get fired... fine thats cool but we used to have awesome bundles and deals that by upgrading a customer we could actually lower a bill sometimes a lot, sometimes a little but actually lower it! Customers loved it... nowww if the bill doesn't increase it doesn't count as a sale for us.. and if it doesn't count... we get written up or up to termination for not having sales.. aside from selling we have a limit for a call HAVING to last 650 seconds handle time.. over that average monthly possible write up depending on circumstances... we have a "tool" we have to follow for troubleshooting called "solution center" which is not too bad for the most part but it takes away from real troubleshooting making the process longer and not providing real solutions that if we don't use and don't schedule our techs coming from the tool... guess again... write up.. i for one feel like I'm pretty good at what I do and can resolve almost anything even if it has to take more "650" seconds but in the end the customer will be happier because the end result was actually taken care of and not have them wait another day maybe 2 or 3 for a tech to come out.. so if we sound scripted asking the same questions every time you call in you know why... oh and surveys.. we get a bad survey even if the customer loved us and they can tell from listening to the call or comments a customer will put... if it's bad it affects our score and again write up... please try to not give a bad survey unless tou feel the rep absoulutely deserved it and even then sometimes survey goes to the wrong person if you ended up transferred everywhere and that survey will get stuck with the wrong person.. like how is it your fault cox that the company sucks but you have normal people depending on this job get fired for your own damm fault... and new trainees are coming in using the "solution center" rolling techs left and right for something as simple as a coding issue on our end for missing channels or being on the wrong input... just making more chances to charge customers for a tech visit... so please I ask everyone to try and be a bit more transparent when speaking to agents were just middle men stuck between a shity company and yourselves... I get there will be certain assholes that don't want to help trust me I know a handful for the most part were also there trying to feed our families... if there's an issue with no service due to outage or other problems... ALWAYS ask for credit we are told not to openly offer so we will not.. I'm sorry again cox sucks... tech is late or doesn't show up.. ask for credit... we have a late tech/no tech credit that is 20 dollars that is never told to customer unless they ask... adding or removing service or and changes always ask for MRC (monthly recurring charges) with taxes please I know a few that will throw numbers out that are before taxes but please ask... always ask for the specific channels your getting or have since a lot of sales people will sell you "basic cable" that for most people thats like mtv, cnn, espn, history, scy fy, hgtv i dont know you name it... but no trust me basic cable is like mostly local channels with very few extra channels which for the most part now one watches... those outages you have sometimes... were told to say it's an outage cox really doing some "planned maintenance" as it's notated on accounts... that we don't even know about until the day of.. but I'm sure they have schedules they go by...

I hope those who are working with issues can get support with Cox. Apparently, I have had the worst time of my life trying to get them to fix my issues. Here is a brief re-cap of what recently happened…
Cable internet service went down, not internet and none of my cox services were working. I was working from home and use my internet at home as an essential way to get my work done. I then called Cox cable, the tech had me reboot my modem over and over (close to 10 times). Signal never came up until 2+ hours later. I ended up missing my work deadlines because of this and put my work in real jeopardy. Eventually it came back and the modem was finally getting a steady signal. But upon further inspection, my router died. It was never rebooted and it was left on the whole time. It also important to mention my router is on a UPS and would not be powered off or surged unless it was physically done. I did some trouble-shooting, and discovered that the many reboots may have surged the router on the wan line over the Ethernet from the modem. I wasn’t sure, but being a Network engineer of 20 yrs, I tested it out. I put a volt meter on the Ethernet from modem. Everything seemed fine. But upon recreating the issue, I rebooted the modem, and an electrical surged seemed to come out of the modem. This is very unlike anything I’ve seen before. So I tested it again, again, and again. Each time with the same results.
I called and reported this faulty modem to Cox cable. They opened a ticket to replace the devices. But within an hour (when I followed up) they closed it. I asked for an explanation, they shared that there is no electricity over Ethernet. Being a Network engineer of 20 years and a BA in Electrical Engineering, I knew they gave me a wrong justification. Plus, the volt meter is net and very accurate. Cox also refused to trouble-shoot more and denied having a tech to check it out. Refusing by means of the issue is resolved and not more of Cox’s resources can be spent on this. I was very upset to hear this. So I filed a complaint. The tech who filed it also arranged to have a tech come out, since I was unjustly denied this before. A few days later I called to check on the complaint, just to find out that there was no action done, and an executive Cox rep decided to cancel my onsite tech request. Wen I spoke to another rep, he said I was right, that the modem does transmit electrical signals over Ethernet to the router. And that the modem will probably need to be looked at…. Since the router was previously destroyed I had borrowed an older router to work from home with. But it also was surged from the modem. I performed the same tests again and saw the electrical surged from the modem each time it rebooted. I then tested this from a friends house who has cox. His modem did not send an electrical surge when powered on/off. So I know mine was defective. I then consulted a snr Network Engineer from a IT company. They analyzed this and confirmed the issue and said I need this modem replaced asap.
I called Cox again, spoke to another agent and shared what was happening. I also shared how an Executive Cox rep seems to block all my requests to have a tech come onsite to test the modem. I asked for a complaint to be filed and a solution be set in place. He did this and offered a small credit in response of the bad customer service I had been receiving and setup for a tech to come out.
Later, the executive Cox rep (Brian) called me and aggressively shared how he was denying any techs to service my house. And that he had reversed my credit for bad service. I argued, complained and denied everything. Even changed the reported issue that I had previously reported. I was very upset how he handled himself, and thought of it as an attack, unprofessional, and very negative. I politely shared how I can’t handle this type of conversation with him, since I’m at work. And said I had to go and hung up. The entire time he was practically yelling at me and talking over me as I excused myself from the conversation.
Now I find myself with 2 broken routers, 1 broken modem, and ow customer service to trouble-shoot or make amends. I’ve never been treated like this by a company and find the customer service to be unprofessional, highly negative, and really have no interest in assisting with problems that their equipment is causing.

One of the more annoying things is how insanely limiting On Demand crap with Contour is, vs. what they want you to believe. Some of it's due to network rules, but they pull new stuff so quickly, and shove older stuff into a pay scheme in a lot of cases. ON DEMAND MY ASS

My internet goes out almost everyday here in New Orleans. When I do have a connection I average around 14mbps download when I am paying for the the preferred package that should be getting 100bps. I have the panorama modem as well so it is not a hardware issue. Without warning they shut my internet down for ingress and I had to schedule an appointment with a technician. That meant missing a day of working and waiting for the technician to arrive hours later then our scheduled appointment. He ran a new cable from the street and just stapled it to the old one. He couldn't even be bothered to remove it. It fixed nothing and I am still dealing with the same issues. I've spent many on the phone with tech support and its always the same. If I had another option for internet I would switch in a heart beat. However they are a monopoly in New Orleans and I don't have another option for highspeed internet. If I could do without internet I absolutely would, but its not a luxury anymore, it is a utility. I need internet for my highspeed internet for my business and dsl or phone tethering just doesn't provide the speeds I need.
Does anyone have any solutions on how to deal with Cox? Is there anything I can do?

If you have other options, explore the other options first, Cox should be at the bottom of your list if you want a fast consistent connection at a reasonable price.

Buying up good service provider companies in the area and then increasing the price and reducing the service. This is happening all over the US and the first step is getting a mass of people to report these issues over and over to the FCC. The FCC is the federal commission created to regulate communication services and to handle issues like these. I myself have filed several for my business communication problems which have since gotten much much better. I have recently filed 3 with the FCC about my personal home use internet. Complaining on the internet will get us all nowhere, but complaining on a large scale to the federal government body that regulates shit services will get us something. And if a large enough group of people send the FCC enough complaints on cox then they will be forced to make a change.

Speak to a supervisor gets you nowhere but frustrated. Offered me a package, had me pick up the equipment, then told me the package was $50 more than what I agreed to.Remember that all phone calls are recorded, but they will not take responsibility for any screw ups by their agents. Always ask for an ID#, because they don,t like to give out full names. You have no recourse except to cancel services. I was a 20 year customer of Verizon and never had any issues. Cox truly sucks!

1- when technical support cant figure out why I get a Down load speed of 0.36MB when I pay for 25MBP they put you on hold and then disconnect, three times in one day.
2- I filled out an online service ticket with no response or conclusion
3 - Made an appointment to have a service technician come out - Six days later! I was promised 8- 10 Am, At 11 AM I called an independent IT company that had me up and running in 30 minutes with the technical support that verified they set up the data connection to the wrong address. Cox technician showed up at 12:30 and was pissed I didn't cancel the service call, that he missed.
I did get an email the next day to let me know that my service call resolved my issue, it guess they just forgot to say I had to hire an outside company to fix their mistake!

Try the chat line, again give the last four numbers of my social security number, but I'm told that "we don't use that verification anymore"... The chat representative also had a different 'secret question' than the one I wrote down in my passbook.

Granted, I am an old woman and my memory is not that good, but it seems to me that verifying my name, address, phone number, account number and the last four digits of my social security number ought to be enough information for them to verify that I am who I say I am, when all I wanted was to be able to use my online account to go in and change my voicemail settings and perhaps sign up for Netflix.

They want me to drag my old bones down to one of their brick and mortar stores to fix this.

I've been dealing with Cox for many years now as they seem to be the only major internet/phone/tv provider in our area, but I am getting to the point where their hurdles are too high for me to jump over.

They then(without our concent) reopened the account to charge us $25 for dropping off the old router and then send us a bill for the $25 drop off router fee, a missed payment fee(on our apparently reopened account) for $125 + $25, a $50+ interest fee, a house tech for collections fee of another $25. And that’s just for the first month after we canceled. Then we called to ask what’s going on and they said they had to reopen the closed account and leave it open for 30 days and then cancel again(mind you we had ATT at this point). Charged us another $125 for the month and $50 for interest expense. Called again to speak to a manager and they said they can’t help, the account has been sent to collections.

2/23/18 I agreed to a new 2 year contract. It was made clear that this was a verbal CONTRACT and if I were to cancel early there would be fee of something over $250.00. I was told this no less than 3 times.

In addition I was told that there would be no price increases for the next 2 years. I was now price increase protected.

Two days later I find that the Variety Pak was removed without my permission. Putting it back increase the price protected monthly rate by about $11.00. Had the Variety Pak not been removed no increase would have been made.

No matter what I said they will not fix this problem. Maybe they can't?

It's only $11.00 but two days after both parties agreed to a 2 year contract is a little off putting.

Now I'm going to start looking for a "cord cutting solution"

Since having Cox reinstalled (whole new cableing AND their modem/router combo) in early November 2017, it has devolved into constant "maintenance" beginning at midnight or 12:30am EVERY NIGHT/MORNING including an additional layer of "outage in your area". Speaking w/tech support on the phone, including "Level 2 in Chesapeak, VA", results in lectures suitable for a 1st grader, repeated excuses about they "can't GUARANTEE" xyz speed on wifi - and then the upsell attempt to (a) monthly wire maintenance fee and (b) "upgrade" your account - FOR MORE MONEY EACH MONTH OF COURSE.
I have a repeat speed test running frequently using testmy.net. (Cox's own 'speed test' flash-based "feature" on their website is not available to non "high speed internet customers". 50 mbps DL/incoming should certainly be enough for my use - yet I am constantly receiving ONLY 2.6 or 4.x incoming signal speed.
I AM TIRED OF BEING LECTURED, UPSOLD, AND DOING STUPID MICROSOFT-CHINESE-FIREDRILLS OF SHUTTING DOWN COMPUTER, REBOOTING EVERYTHING, ETC., BEFORE THEY EVEN LOOK TO THEIR *OWN* INNER WORKINGS FOR THE PROBLEM WHICH THEY CLEARLY KNOW EXISTS.
I cannot and will not continue to spend countless HOURS on the phone with these people 5-6 times A WEEK.

Unknown to me, Cox installed a phone box in the garage so after the sale I started receiving collection notices having turned in everything I knew was there's so I receive a collections notice for $261 for a house I can no longer enter (how would I have known they had equipment installed in the garage) . Cox knew I was selling the home and I asked what needed to be turned in. No mention of the phone box. So everyone knows how this process works, Cox receives the A+ rating from the BBB because they pay for it yearly as a per location charge, so your reviews will not ding the A+ rating, but Cox has ZERO loyalty for long time customers and will never forgive a dime making you pay no matter what. Other complaint sites you can use are: Yelp, Pissed Consumer, Consumer Affairs, TWITTER, InstaGram, and the Cox FB page to name a few. Horrible customer service as someone serving as a former VP of Customer Service for a billion dollar company, Cox does not care about their customers at all regardless of what your situation or complaint is, they have a 100% COX ONLY policy whereas the customer is not a part of their business plan. Buyer beware is an understatement.

I have never in my life dealt with a shittier service than Cox. The issue first arose when my roommate was moving out and the Cox account was under her name. We had a "specialist" help us out to get everything transferred out of her name and into mine. He had told me I would receive a confirmation email... and I never did, and this is when I knew something was up.

I decided not to dig into it any further, and I just had my old roommate give me access to her account and I added myself as an alternative user.

Our Internet had sucked to begin with, and the other day, it was so terrible I couldn't stand it any longer and called Cox because I wanted to upgrade my services.

The customer support specialist told me, "sorry, I can't do that without authorization by the account holder". This was SUPPOSED to be taken care of on the very first call we had with the guy who said I should receive the confirmation email that my services had been switched over!

So she calls my old roommate, she agrees that we can disconnect the account, and I will open up a new account in my name so that I can upgrade my Internet services. I work everyday, so I thought a Saturday would be a reasonable day for me to come in, so I told her, "DO NOT SHUT MY SERVICES OFF UNTIL SATURDAY". I do not know how many times I confirmed with her that my services would last until Saturday (I had called on a Tuesday or something).

Next thing I know, I'm working from home on the Thursday night before I was going to switch my Internet, and LOW AND BEHOLD.... MY INTERNET SHUTS OFF!!!!

I call, get ahold of one lady, she looks into the issue, and then our call gets disconnected...... I call back, I talk to a kind lady (who I am sorry had to deal with my rudeness but it is expected at this point), she can't fix it or turn it back on so she sends me to higher technical support, and tells me "this will be a direct transfer so you won't have to wait". And GUESS WHAT.... ON HOLD FOR 15 MINUTES.

I talk to that final guy, and he tells me... "I can't turn the Internet back on without cancelling the order of transferring services, and then re-activating this account". LIKE WHAT!!!!! FIRST OF ALL, MY ROOMMATE'S ACCOUNT WAS SUPPOSED TO TRANSFERRED TO MY NAME. THEN, I TELL THEM NOT TO SHUT OFF MY SERVICES UNTIL SATURDAY...AND WHAT DO THEY DO....SHUT THEM OFF!!!!! THEN THEY CAN'T EVEN HELP ME FIX IT WITHOUT CANCELLING THE TRANSFER.... I hate them so much I literally cannot even.

They apologized and said they were working on it. I changed all of them back to the defaults, and they worked--until yesterday.

Since I was required to install Cox Contour and new modem/modem of their choice my streaming services from Netflix,Amazon and others has been a huge problem. Almost on a daily basis, my TV loses Internet connection. Cox has no idea why I cannot use these services, but is still collecting $254.00 per month.
Also, when they moved my service a mile away in the same city, thy mixed up my old and new address. Service continued at the new address, but the bill was sent to my old house. To add insult to injury they almost instantly sent the "overdue" bill to a collection agency and to all three credit bureaus. My credit score dropped about 500 points and eight month is still going down since I have nothing to pay. Now I have to deal wit Cox, a collection agency and the credit bureaus. Direct or Dish is looking better every way.

McDonald’s provides better internet than Cox does and the WiFi probably doesn’t shut down at the same time every single day either. Which is another problem, every single day around 5-5:30 the WiFi is completely unusable. And if it’s not by that time, you can bet your ass it’s sometime around 7 while you’re in the middle of watching Netflix or doing homework. Cox is the Chrysler of the internet/cable service providers, at one point they were mediocre, and now they’re just complete trash in every single way

I was on the phone for anywhere from 1/2 to an hour every time. They increased my bill from 136.00 to 148.00 and I called to get a better price. They quoted me 126.00. the next bill I got was for 148.00 . I called and they could not find out from the notes where the quote had come from. A supervisor apologized and told me that he would go in every month and give me a 20.00 credit onto my account so make up for the misquote. Of course, he only did it for one month. When I called back, the notes were only showing an authorization for one month of the credit for 20.00. They advised that they would give me the credit as a one time deal. I advised that I refuse to call every month to get a credit that I was told I would automatically get. I asked to be trans to the person who made this promise to me and they said that my request did not warrant a supervisor. I said" give me a supervisor now" and the person advised that he could not. U hung up. they have a wonderful tech support department but they are really lacking in customer service, documentation of the accounts, consistency etc. ...I have no choice but to stay with Cox due to the area that I live in but I am going to push for Verizon to come in as a choice...I hate cox...jk5vf

The most disgusting customer service from any company I have dealt with spanning 50 years.Representative sounds like she is chomping on a double quarterpounder with half in her mouth.All reps in background laughing and joking around.I have no problem with that but the rep was not taking my call seriously and was trying to get off the call without answering the questions i had.
When asking for a supervisor,she said they would call back.Well I already knew that would not happen then she just hangs up !

I call right back talk to a diefferent rep and he said all supervisors were all tied up and they would call back.Again I knew the way things were going they would not.
Appears I was quite correct.The only thing left to do was call the corporate office in Atlanta Georgia.
of which the public relations person was very much different and listened to my thoughts on the matter,she was cordial as was I.I asked if she had the recording of the call and she said she did know who I spoke with and would take it to the supervisor of the rude represntative.

Whether that helps or not I will probably never know.
It is true, the representative that said they would call back...never did.
So all that can be done is to maybe let the corporate office in Atlanta Georgia know your distaste for your rude experience.Maybe it will help maybe not but it is imperative for people to do this.If corporate does not know what is going on,the rude,uncaring,representatives that are there for a unearned,unprofessional paycheck with the most horrible attitudes it will never change.Maybe it will maybe not but I implore you to take your complaint as far as you can.
Thank you for giving us a place to reveal the truth of horrible Cox Cable representatives.No problem with the actual service and technical end

Even more mind blowing: They ran a campaign in the state to slice the state into huge tracks of cable controlled monopolies; and then lied about what the cost was to maintain a municipal internet area. They bullied anyone who thought otherwise.

Literally, my county could have set up a municipal backbone but was cut off at the knees by COX by underpricing their services until the local people lost interest in funding a municipal Internet. THEN they sued other companies for trying to set up a fiber line in the area.

I will find a way to deconstruct this company, and they will want to do it because they will fear their own name. Anyone invested in them will consider them disgusting and abhorrent to free market or free thought.

Turns out it was not clear. Again. Now the automated system says I owe $100 that the agent who seemingly purposely wasted 30min of my time on phone did not resolve. He lied about my previous phone calls with agents saying I agreed to pay the $25 returned check fee. That was from a phone call I received saying everything was settled two months later. Now they cannot say what automated system think I owe 100 for and that scares me. Neither will they submit my complaint or have the "back office" contact me. They will waste your time with this back and forth. Many lies and no resolution when you are trying to do the right thing.

Before you can switch to Century Link back in the day. Now Cox seems to have a Monopoly on digital cable.
I actually took a 4 year hiatus from cable and tv. It was nice. Now I am on the infamous merry go round loopy loop. Though Cox Contour is what keeps me with them I am too old to play games. I may just quit Cox for the final time and move on

Overall haven't had too many issues with Cox but lately when I moved to a new location, I've been having trouble at work due to timeouts and lengthy periods of dropped connections. There is nothing they can apparently do except wait to upgrade the infrastructure in the neighborhood. I have to go through an entire process just to get compensated for the down time. The representatives have varying degrees of competence, and I often find myself repeating things even though they should be able to read the note. Some of them simply have no clue what the tools in front of them do, and it's pathetic I have to walk them through it. Lastly, I love their replacement system for their cable boxes. They won't automatically give you the option for a cable card, no, you have to cycle through x number of shitty refurbished boxes before it is an option.

They're vastly superior to other ISPs I have dealt with, and overall have no problem with them, but they really need to invest in some longer class room hours for their phone handlers. That is the worst part of it all.

I was charged 450. for early termination fee. No one at the Cox office including the director of customer service would even look into the service calls or any history whatsoever. I went to better business bureau they did absolutely nothing. They have over 1000 bad reviews with the BBB unsolved and still cox has a high rating with them. Go figure.Now they charged my card for services i never ordered - a card I never authorized them to used and charged me for the return fees when I canceled the card. A data plan for unlimited data is 50$ more a month on top of the standard charge. A data plan for 1500GB a month cost 30$ more on top of the standard charge, also the unused data cannot be ported to the next month, COX just rips it off.
This is robbery pure and simple with the approval and complicity of the FCC....

I called, today, regarding a $30.00 increase in my bill. I am ONE year into a TWO-YEAR "locked" price agreement. After speaking to 6 agents (transfer...transfer...transfer) and, eventually have to read THEIR contract back to them, I got no where. When I asked the agent, "How many customers after the two-year agreement is up, actually leave Cox and go to other companies?" He said, "about 10%". I'll bet it is more like 80%!!!

My point: The "two-year" locked pricing does NOT include promotional pricing--even though it is sold that way. This is classic bait and switch. The contract is clear; their enforcement is not. Here's the way it works:

You sign up for a two-year "fixed" pricing. You THINK that everything is, "FIXED" for two years without any increases. Nope. The contract says, any item they've sold you at the RETAIL PRICE, can't go up for two years. But that "promotional" rate can.

Now, I'm not stupid (I'm a paralegal). I read contracts. So, they SELL you promotional pricing under "it can't go up for two years." And what they are really telling you is: "Any price on this promotion CAN go up. . .it just can't go higher than our regular sky-high prices."

Bait and Switch.

After my two-years is up, I will be changing to Satellite TV or disconnecting Cable and go with NetFlix only.

I didn't even bother getting tv with them, figured I would just stream everything, and only got internet. Now I have their highest speed Internet which lags and buffers, on EVERY device I own. I pay too much for an Internet I can't even use. I'm at the point of just having nothing rather than paying for something that doesn't work!!

Worthless company. I have been experiencing outages between 8am-3pm every day, and every time I call, these chuckleheads tell me that it's an outage and there's nothing they can do about it,...

Worthless company. I have been experiencing outages between 8am-3pm every day, and every time I call, these chuckleheads tell me that it's an outage and there's nothing they can do about it, call back after 3pm if it's still an issue.

Well, naturally, by 3pm, it seems to magically come back on (at slower speeds than I'm paying for, but sure, it's on). And if I call them to schedule a technician to come out (because they won't do it WHILE an outage is going on..), they'll send some other chucklehead to come out here and tell me my equipment is bad (it's not) or it's on their end (too bad). And THEN I'll get charged for the technician coming out.

And when the outage happens again -- LIKE EVERY SINGLE f%@kING DAY IT HAS BEEN -- I have to repeat the whole process over again.

My internet has always lagged, but has been unbearable for much of the past 6 years. My overpriced TV worked for the most part, actually the only reason I held onto this absurdly overpriced garbage....

My internet has always lagged, but has been unbearable for much of the past 6 years. My overpriced TV worked for the most part, actually the only reason I held onto this absurdly overpriced garbage. Now, at least 40% of my shows record for 2-4 minutes or it displays having recorded the entire show, but displays "content currently unavailable' when I press play. Honestly, it actually records less than half my shows. In addition, I've lost a DVR full of shows three times this year after a reset. Irony being, I've been exploring cutting the cord entirely, but my internet is so awful, I can't assess if streaming is a viable option. I do not understand how the hell a huge city like Phoenix doesn't have a decent competitor. It's a complete monopoly, hence zero urgency to provide decent service. Meanwhile, their billing department is always hard core and on their game. I HATE this company. Seriously, how in the hell do they get away with this with all these complaints?

Anyone else hate the new stupid "app suite" that all Cox mail is being transitioned to? You can no longer do mail forwarding to different accounts as before. Maybe there's a way around it, but I really don't need to be wasting any more time re-configuring what they screwed up. One of my accounts (business one, with important items) got transferred first. So now I have to re-do things on my end. Cox loves to raise prices yet does not improve service. Please don't get me started on the tech service whose job we had to fix ourselves. They are a JOKE!

If you're looking for a solution to the Cox email bullshiz, just use a PC or Mac mail service free or paid. Mozilla Thunderbird is buggy at times but is free. Postbox, which I also have, is like Outlook / Thunderbird.

Gmail is good for collecting all of your emails in one place, plus it's free if you don't mind that they're not very secure. ANYTHING is better than the "app (crap) suite" Cox switched to. I host domains and my webmaster account on 1and1.com and Cox is using the same platform with "Portal" a main page you can see multiple items on, then go to your email. Serves no purpose for most people. If you look at the Cox site as a whole, it's a jumbled mess. Get your sh*t together Cox, because you suck.

Cable went out so I called for service. Technician diagnosed "faulty equipment" and said that there be no charge. Next bill came in with a "service call" charge. Called billing...

Cable went out so I called for service. Technician diagnosed "faulty equipment" and said that there be no charge. Next bill came in with a "service call" charge. Called billing department and was told that charge would be removed and to just pay the remainder. A couple of weeks later cable goes out again. Called again and was told that we had been cut off for not paying the service charge! After explaining the situation was told that was a error and service was restored. Now the next bill comes in and there's a re-connection charge PLUS a late fee for not paying the (now removed) service charge! WTF?! Not calling this time. Going in person to their local office!

Look, Cox has already sucked since I started using it (and still, somehow, there's no better alternative in the Chandler, AZ region), but for the past few days, it has been next to impossible to stream any services at higher than 240p, and it's easier to piss through a pin hole from fifty yards away than to try to play any online video games. I should be getting around 50mbps, according to the plan I got, and I used to (granted, when it wasn't the evening). The past few days, I've been getting 1mbps, assuming the internet hasn't randomly stopped working all together every thirty seconds. What a f%@king joke of a company. I hope either some company like Verizon comes in and installs Fios or I move somewhere that has an internet service better than this f%@king place, because right now, I don't know what the f%@k I'm paying almost $100 a month for.
