COX cable is by far the worse internet provider I have ever HAD to deal with, we are subject to their incredibly horrific service and are charges just as horrific rates. Until there is legitimate competitor's in the market place we are held hostage with this provider of 3rd rate service with 1st rate pricing. I lose my internet on a daily basis and working from home this presents a major inconvenience. It is a shame that Cox has the ability to run free range with service and rates and are left unchecked and unregulated, ridiculous, if we could get enough of our dissatisfied, disenchanted and disheartened fellow pissed off customers together and some way pull out of cox they would hopefully fall into the black abyss they sole rightfully deserve.

They charged me for a complete month of service for having it from September 5th until September 15th. 10 days of service, in which they messed up and I only had 2 tv's instead of 4 for the first two weeks, and they charged me for an entire month of service that was only 10 days long. I had an interview there several years ago and I was over qualified according to the interviewer since I had worked for Creative Labs, Gateway, Seagate, and Dell. The agents there read from a script and they are graded on how well they stick to the script. They make sure that all the agents have the same lack of computer knowledge when hired so that customer expectations are the same no matter who you talk to. This is sad because it dilutes the customer service experience and hurts the overall customer satisfaction with the company, but it is cheap for the company. Agents with little to no computer support knowledge are cheap to hire and plentiful.

I woke up to message on my Cox app saying they under went maintenance last night till 6:00a.m. After patiently waiting my service was still down. I spent over an hour trying to explain to a representative my service was down and needed a tech to come through. Of course no tech was available till the following day. They tried going through the same bs troubleshooting like they always do. “Can you unplug your equipment and reboot it” Of course that failed as I told them the last tech that was here showed me the mess of cable wires he had to deal with. I explained to the representative that this was a external issue and not internal but he didn’t believe me and insisted continue on troubleshooting. I finally got him to schedule a tech over to fix the issue and he hit me with a possible service charge. I laughed at him and said why am I being charged for something I had no control over. Your company under went a maintenance and inconvenienced me, especially when my service was working fine the night before. Hoped the issue gets fixed but what really needs repair is their customer service. The representatives just sound like programmed robots reading of their index cards.

I pay for 150mgb of service. I'm getting speeds of 18-35 download and .08 - 10 up. I wrote to support, and all they can do is either reset the modem or set an appointment. Agents aren't skilled, and have no tools to do anything, i forced them to let me talk to a supervisor and the supervisor was only as competent and able as the agents. Cox is rude, and incompetent, and give you no assurance of service or support.

imo, it is a breach of contract, and a theft of service. If i don't pay a bill, they will shut you down without regard, but demand that they do their jobs, and honor the contract, they say FU. Threaten legal action, they say "Bring it".

I will complete my contract with them, and get another service. I have also filed a complaint with the FCC, and they don't care. Cox must be brought to trial in a class action suit.

Wasted over 8 hours this weekend over a billing glitch on their backend system.

First I spent an hour at the Cox store negotiating a new 2-year contract at a $290/month rate which included Gigablast internet, high-speed gateway rental, 3 wireless TV boxes, and a few other items. Took everything home, hooked it up and all worked well for about an hour. Then the internet stopped working. After countless hours on the phone and chat with customer service and tech support, they determined my new modem/router combo (Cox Panoramic gateway) was defective as they couldn't even reset it from their end. So I had to drive back to the store and got it replaced.

Went home, hooked it up...all good! Until...I opened my email and found a new message from Cox saying my new monthly rate was $445/month! WTH!

Then the fun began. Spent at least 6 more hours with 8 separate calls to support (each time had to wait at least 15 to 20 minutes) and then either got the "sorry, I can't help you, you will need to call this number..." or they put me on hold and the line got disconnected.

I was so pissed off that sales, tech support, billing, customer service, and promotions ALL said they couldn't do anything but pointed to another department and gave me a different phone number to call.

FINALLY I reached someone who knew what the hell the issue was and fixed it in about 15 minutes. Her name was Julia (didn't provide last name) in their Loyalty department. It was a goof on their end when they replaced the gateway and it somehow reset my contract.

Now only if I can get fast internet with the the so-called giga speed (only get about 120 MB instead). Going to call tech support on that issue tomorrow.

COX just sucks, you guys! That’s it. Plain and simple. I’m a physician currently working from home seeing pt.’s over a Telehealth platform and today it all came crashing down. Early morning my connection is interrupted. I spend hours trying to reach someone to help me get back online and when I finally do the conversation is rushed and my only option is to wait an additional 5 days for a technician to come out and triage the issues. I agree to this and promptly get connected to finance to terminate my subscription. I’m left wondering if she actually scheduled the tech or just pushed me off to another department. The man I spoke w/ seemed very confused about everything I said including my name. I had to explain to him multiple times that I needed a tech out ASAP To get me back online and that I wanted to terminate my subscription effective 9/26. This went on for far too long. I was able to get clear, verbal confirmation from the man that everything was completed as it should be at the end of the call. So here we are. I’m now without access to internet for 5 days. 5 days not seeing pt.’s, 5 days not making money, 5 days without security (its $900 a day for a private company to monitor your home btw), 5 days without education, 5 days without conveniences normally afforded by the Gigablast panoramic whatever. It’s just the fact that during a time where people are in some cases completely reliant on having access to the internet to survive both financially and mentally they are so nonchalant about the long ass wait for help. People don’t have 5 days to wait for you to figure it out. Something is wrong in their algorithm or they are incorrectly prioritizing revenue over people. Either way it’s not right. People are jobless hire more techs, hire home based customer service reps so the wait times aren’t 45 minutes. They have a monopoly on the market where I live so we are dependent on them not to suck so many COX and just give us the internet!

BTW: When your contract with COX is over and they jack up the prices, call them and ask for what promotions they are offering. They have always had something when I ask. I wish there was a different provider to avoid the hassle, but there's nothing else for cable internet.

No explanation was offered nor did they admit that I had no notice of this change in pricing because they have a monopoly on internet in my area, I am forced to accept their additional cost. When I moved my service from California to Virginia, the monthly cost went from $59.99 to $69.99 for the exact same service. When I asked them why, they said it was because there is no competition at my new location. They are certainly lucky that there's not.

I moved here 3 years ago from another South OC neighborhood, where I had FIBER internet. Here, the infrastructure is outdated, over burdened, too much traffic, old, defective and in bad need of upgrades. We tolerate because we feel like we have no choice, meanwhile, Cox pays off or otherwise convinces local politicians to keep their illegal monopoly with NO checks and balances. They answer to no one, especially the customers whom they continue to escalate charges with. The local Cox office on Camino Capistrano in the 1970's was a founding office for what is now Cox Communications and at that time, they invested heavily in our local systems.

This is NOT a NEW problem, and it's NOT limited to the problems COVID stay at home behavior has shined the spotlight on.

Unfortunately, it is all outdated now.

They will never upgrade since they don't need to. In fact, they overpromise and underdeliver EVERYWHERE they do business. They have it down to a fine science.

We can all B*tch about it online, we can all moan and complain.

We can scream at them on the phone.

Nothing matters. They are the ONLY choice. By design. Intentionally, they have a perfect business. They can continue to charge outrageous fees (about 5-10 times what the same service would cost in other parts of the world), with ZERO competition, no recourse and NOTHING that can be done.

Well. Not Nothing....

Contact your local elected officials and DEMAND CHANGE. DEMAND THAT COX BE SHUT OUT FROM YOUR COMMUNITY BY YOUR REPRESENTATIVE DEMOCRACY.

The salesperson I spoke to last year told me that it wasn't a promotion and wouldn't go up. The horribly rude people I spoke to on the phone told me that wasn't their problem.

I've never had service I would consider even adequate from this company and everyone I talk to is either a liar or incredibly rude. How on Earth are they still in business? Never thought I would wish to have Comcast back

For the past five days, my internet has been abysmally slow. I pay for 150mbps, and I hardly clear 30mbps. Ive reset my modem and router eight times today, all before noon. I’ve called customer service multiple times a day for three days. The service reps are pleasant to speak with, but all they have managed to do is remotely reset my modem, which does nothing to rectify the issue.

They offered a “deal” to upgrade my service to 300mbps for $10.00 a month, but I wasn’t interested. Imagine my surprise when I called the next day (for the same issues), to learn that the 300mbps had been added to my plan after I declined.

I’m abhorrently disappointed in my recent technical service with COX. Before I moved, I never had a complaint with this company. However, now I can’t go a single hour without having to reset all my devices. I was hoping it would be a short term service issue, but after reading the posts on this forum, it seems I would be better off sending smoke signals before this issue is rectified.

Cox is absolute garbage! We've had Cox Cable, Internet, Phone bundle for just under a year, and it has not worked properly for one full day. We've had them come out for service calls and swap boxes, connections, modems, etc, but nothing works. The most common problem is the sound dropping out while the show continues to play. You have to change the channel and then change back to get the sound to kick back on, and most of the time, this only fixes it for a few minutes. The internet continually drops out completely, leaving us without internet and TV. I can only assume this affects the landline phone as well, which was added solely for emergencies. Lot of help that's gonna be if we need it. f%@k you Cox. If the decision were mine to make, you'd have been cancelled on day one.

With needing to work and school from home now due to COVID the DSL service we have with Verizon isn’t cutting it anymore so wanted to upgrade our speed by giving cox a try again!! At this point thinking I have made a dumb decision thinking anything would be different!!! Equipment arrived via mail for self install on Monday... spent 2hrs Monday trying to setup on my own (I am a software engineer for a living) with no luck then 1.5 hrs with support on the phone to be told we need to send a tech out... tech came out end of day Tuesday and got it partially working (no internet and cable worked on “some” channels) and said he put a tech ticket in and the line men would be out in the morning to upgrade the line coming in at the street and he left. Waited a bit then called support again and was on for 45 mins troubleshooting with no luck then the tech all of a sudden says “oh there’s an outage in your area until 2:45, it should be fixed or call back” REALLY!!!! so 3:00pm roles around and of course still nothing is working... call again still can’t tell me if line men have fixed anything or when they will and says I need to wait for another tech to come out tomorrow!! Needless to say at this point like I said I am considering just saying with DSL as Cox appears to not care to fix or take my new customer issues seriously!! Only way this is allowed is cause they are the only option around here for 150 mbps so they don’t care about customers as we have no other option... so pissed off right now and feeling helpless and trapped by this crappy company again... enough said

Once i did they (representative) were vague as to when services would be returned . I received several "updates " via text messages. With multiple estimated service restore times. None of them were accurate, i explained to cox representatives that my modem (cox rental) wasn't reconnecting , it was like pulling teeth to even get them to recognize that their equipment was the issue. Initially they wanted me to wait a week for an service call. I told them that unless i was serviced the next day i would contact DirecTV. This past six months, every 4 to 5 weeks my service was interrupted. If you have a choice , DON'T USE COX COMMUNICATIONS!

Cox messes up my billing every single month. Each month, I have to contact them to resolve. Each time, they tell me I'm giving them the wrong last 4 digits of my SSN, and they can't help....

Cox willingly took my $169 for unlimited Gigablast internet each month for years. Then the one time my online backups used more "upstream" data than they liked, they had a gruff, rude and arrogant Customer Advocate Supervisor named "Daniel" who called me to tell me that I am "ruining the internet experience of other customers around you". He also went on to tell me that they were slowing down my upload speed. It was done to me, but not the others in my neighborhood. He told me no recourse, and no escalation above him. So I filed a consumer protection complaint with the state AG office. Suddenly Cox executive escalation calls me, listens, then ultimately did nothing to correct the issue. Apparently taking my $ is fine, but when I actually go to use the service, I am suddenly a bad customer. Moved to Century Link. Service is slower, price is lower, but will not be talked to like that. Cox. Appropriately named. Daniel must be Latin for "one who does not care". Good luck Daniel. Do not come into my business expecting to be treated nicely if you are wearing a Cox shirt.

I had an appointment scheduled with COX because my remote would not communicate with the box. After trying everything we could over the phone it was decided that I needed new equipment. So they sent a technician out today. However, when he arrived he said that due to COVID-19 he was unable to enter my residence and I would have to swap out the equipment he would stand by the door and walk me through it. REALLY!!!!! Why even send someone out???

I was NOT told this at the time the appointment was set up. However, now the technician is telling me that if I wanted someone to exchange the equipment I could wait a couple of weeks for things to return to somewhat normal. Again,,,REALLY,!! I called to complain and it went nowhere. COX really sucks. I told them they could pick up their crappy equipment after COVID-19 and I would get DIRECTV to replace them.

All of Cox’s consumer home internet plans in our area used to have unlimited capacity with varying bandwidths (that don’t matter anyway because the connection has always been completely unreliable), but now it’s worse with varying bandwidths AND varying capacities and they didn’t grandfather us in on their prior policy to give everyone unlimited data capacities at different bandwidth rates and shoved us into the lowest data limited “plan” they have.
It hurts to think that companies that act like this still exist.

On the other hand, COX does everything it can to try to sell you another service or upgrade your current. Now Cox is incredibly good at reminding me of when my payment is due. The first of the month I get a phone notification and I get no less than 3 more before it is due. My payments are always early and I'm proud of my +800 credit rating. Just an absolute garbage company and I hope in the future we have more choices. I had Time Warner in NY and they are just as bad. Within the last 2 years, they have jacked my bill, Lowered my speeds (now under 15 MB on a good day) and the internet works only intermittently. 3 days ago I followed a Cox repair truck that simply meandered the neighborhood but never stopped to fix anything. Another cox repairman was working on another street. I approached him and asked why do we have only internet 1/2 the time. He said he would work on it. Today it again is off and on. When we had the hurricanes from Frances, Jean, and Charlie. The Cox overhead line laid on the ground in my backyard for nearly 1 year after repeated calls to service. I have no other choice in Internet providers at this property. At my father in-laws is served by Spectrum. I have 150 MB service and it is 1/3 the cost of Cox and it WORKS! Wow! Out of the blue they shut my service off Friday night. I'm a week or so late to make a payment but I've always had until the 25th or 26th of the month to make payment and it's never been a problem. I ALWAYS pay my bill!

It's 8:45 pm on a Friday night and the service just shuts off. I go to call them only to find out they no longer have 24-hour customer phone service. Only open from 8am-8pm now. They jack the bill up all the time, yet now I get fewer services?

So my only choice is to use my cell phone and start an online chat. The "customer service" rep states they cannot turn my service back on because of some bullshit code that they need but are not given. Only the billing department can do that or some bullshit.

Then the rep tells me if I make a payment it will come back on. Wow. So I ask how is it that they cannot turn my service on, but if I make a payment it will magically be turned back on. The rep replies with some more bullshit.

Long story short, I have to wait until 8am on Saturday morning to call and speak to someone in their billing/compliance dept. I get hold of some idiot and he says he doesn't know why they turned my service off so early. Well NO SHIT SHERLOCK!

So I'm told if I schedule a payment he will turn it back on for me. I schedule the payment. I had the money to pay all along but I was not going to pay on Friday night out of principle. I thought long and hard about whether to pay at all. Unfortunately, the only other choice for the internet in my complex is Century Link, and they suck bigger balls than Cox.

I just didn't like the way they tried to strongarm me into making a payment on Friday night. They DELIBERATELY wait until after 8 pm to turn the service off so you have NO RECOURSE but to call in and make a payment. Well BULLSHIT! I AM NOT going to be pushed around by a f%@king cable company!

I'm just waiting until I have a better choice than Century Link and I am done with Cox! They are AWFUL! That's how they treat a 7-year customer? I don't think so...

Have had Cox for 30 years, no major problems except they are too expensive. I don’t have cable tv anymore, just internet and phone. They sent email saying my modem was outdated and “we’re offering an upgrade on us. You can get a better modem at no additional cost…” So, I ordered and opted for self-install. That was a joke! For two days I went round and round with support and never got the same answer twice. Finally, someone said the modem they sent wasn’t the correct one because it didn’t allow for a phone. So, I ended up going to the Cox store. Finally had contact with someone who knew what they were doing. Switched modems and everything was good. Until I got my monthly bill! I was charged $179.00 for the new modem. I called and was told they always charge for the equipment, unless I was renting it. I read the ad to her and there was more dancing around until I said that was deceptive and I was going to report it to the BBB. At which point I was transferred to someone else. I pointed the same thing out to her and then she came up with, “you haven’t returned the old modem”. Told her I used the return UPS label they sent and dropped it in the UPS bin at my office. She said unless I had “proof” there was nothing she could do. Wow, I usually get kissed before I get screwed!

Customer service is mostly untrained people who have no idea how to help, and most of the technicians are overconfident, underqualified white men who come in, tell you it's your equipment no matter how many times you've switched, upgraded or repaired said equipment.

I checked all my devices and they say I used about 230gb (the normal usage amount). So I called in and got through to a representative without any wait, which is interesting because they never returned my call. When I asked the representative why a technician is scheduled to come to my house She informed me that he's coming to collect payment or their equipment. So now they send out thugs just like the mafia you to collect payment or repo their equipment. They truly are one of the worst companies I've ever had to deal with. Oh and by the way my total bill with them including past due charges is less than $200.

We had a bundle package (cable, phone, and internet) for $174 a month, which we were happy with. Our phone got hacked in January and someone was making long distance calls. In February they noticed it and canceled our phone line (which we only used as a fax and thought the fax was having issues). Our bill went up to over $300 per month and nobody called us to tell us. After finally getting our phone line back and many apologies they offered to give us a $99 a month bundle as well as a $200 credit to left reimburse us for all of the overpayments we were making (which didn't come close to what we were overpaying based on what we were paying). They reinstated all of the services (as I had previously canceled the premiums and lowered the internet speed trying to lower the bill) and months later said that the $99 a month bundle wasn't approved... This was something that they offered to us an an apology; so basically their apology wasn't approved to be given!! Not only that, I had to ask to speak to a supervisor to get them to backdate the over $200 plan they were leaving me with and they wouldn't do it.. So they gave me all of these services at a promised price, let months go by and then reneged on the promised price, and left us high and dry on the inflated price, leaving us to pay the over $300 a month prices. I never would have taken the services had I known they couldn't guarantee what they were offering me. I had probably spoken to over 2 dozen people and nobody left notes in the computer about my situation and often times it was blamed on a 3rd party person that I was speaking to on Cox's behalf (which is a terrible excuse). I said to go back and listen to the conversations of where I was offered it several times and they said that they couldn't; I though calls were recorded for better service!!!! I ever wrote down peoples names and asked for confirmation numbers; names didn't matter/help and there are no confirmation numbers to refer to when speaking to anyone there. For a big company, you would think they would do better than this, very disappointing and very unhappy with this place.

I called each succeeding month and was told each time, that I was in the que and that they had no answers yet. I called yesterday and was told that my case had been closed, that my older emails were irretrievable and that they were sorry. Sorry!!!!! I asked the tech why wasn't I notified that when they were switching servers that this could happen? He tells me that they didn't think it would be a problem. My speeds were consistently mediocre a couple of years ago, with Cox then as well, and then something changed on the Cox side of things and it turned into unpredictable garbage. I work from home, and I have to upload and download large media files daily, so this arrangement isn't working. Regardless of what speed I pay for, the service is always the same. Poop.

When I called Cox they said it was turned off because of the digital transfer that had not occurred. Issue #1 had the transfer scheduled back in july, tech showed up with wrong parts. rescheduled for the same time slot 1 week later. Tech shows day early, told cant' do it, you set install for next day, come back then.... no show 3 more hour of my time wasted.. They screwed up and never followed up.

Brings us to 9/5 and storm inbound. Got to Mom's, got tech on line, "we're sorry, phone should be back on shortly..." Even set up a new install appointment for 9/16. We go about securing house running out for last minute supplies..

Hour later, no phone service. Mom gets email.. "for restoring your service bill 75.00" I call support, How I managed not to cuss out the operator, no idea... go thru two techs, finally get transferred to a supervisor to figure out why service not restored.. He went on to start tell me he can get and installer out sooner that the 16th but can't restore her service because she's past the digital transfer deadline... It was at that point my conversation ended...

My mother in law is 80.. a hurricane is coming .. phone service has been cut off.. f%@k THEM!!

Cox blocks their users from having web servers. I want to set up a software called Octoprint on my network so that I can remotely monitor my 3D printer. The application is locally hosted on a device on my network and only sends out temperature data from the sensors + a live webcam feed. This isn't particularly taxing on any network, especially my specific internet plan, but because it's a server, I would have to buy a significantly more expensive business internet plan which is kinda difficult to do given that I'm just a graduate student. This is why we need net neutrality.

I would change internet providers but my complex has some sort of contract with Cox so that no other internet providers can provide service to this complex. All I can do is vent and hope somebody in power sees this and sides with people like me. This situation is depressing.

I remove all the obstacles for access to the attic which renders my laundry room useless. THE TECH DOES NOT APPEAR AS PROMISED. Me and my dog have been customers with Cox for 15 years. They called a few weeks ago, after we had some connectivity issues, and offered a new modem at no cost. Then... suddenly... out of nowhere... a shitty connection, if one at all. Their modem came in a couple days but was not even close to what they had promised. I called and complained and said we will keep our modem. Then... suddenly... out of nowhere... a great connection; for about a week. Like now, it is very rare I get a good connection, so I thought I would use my time wisely;)
Today, I spoke with customer service and asked for a credit to my bill and questioned WTF? The guy said my modem is third party and has been out of date with Cox "for a long time now." I called his bullshit and asked "why has no one ever told us (the customer) about this, we have contacted Cox several times and not one word." I was blamed for having "faulty" equipment and told I am going to pay $200 anywhere else for a new modem/router.
BTW - The best modem for Cox, according to Best Buy, is the MOTOROLA MG7540 16×4 Modem Router, for $129.98 at Wal puke, Targnished, and Slamzone.
The guy changed his tune and said because we are such good customers he will give us their modem/router for $5 a month for 12 months, on lease. So, that is on the way, hopefully. Then I got transferred to billing and was told a supervisor needed to call me back in 5 minutes. 30 minutes later I called back and was told as a "courtesy" they will refund $15 on our next bill. It's been 3 weeks that I have only been able to connect late at night or mid-day, sometimes. Not when I actually want the service I pay for. I was reassured the issue is on my end and she will also remove the $20 self-install service fee for the new modem/router. Yeah, no cost because we purchased insurance; not because you are offering some courtesy.

My signal is good.
My equipment is operational.
The only change is my external connectivity and a sales call.
A scan using my iMac resulted in a recommendation to contact my service provider.

Now my service provider denies any responsibility, even though they could be the reason my connection is bad because they do have the ability to affect service at any time.

It comes down to interpretation.

Did they send anything to or from our modem? Why did they not inform us if/when they may or may not have realized that certain customers have a certain modem on their list that is being removed then call those customers and say "hey bro, your shit's outdated." Then we can make an informed decision. Instead the new trend is to make life difficult by taking away from actual customer service, by enabling call centers to "represent" a certain company. It's what I do now and the way people treat every customer as a potential sale is BullShit. I got lucky with a good company recently, f%@kwads.
Anyway, I know this is long as f%@k. I'm typing more to make it longer as f%@k. I hope anyone considering Cox, or any other larger communications company, will be aware of the current business environment and trends. They will offer you deals, sales, specials, courtesy’s, thank you’s, and all kinds of ways to get you to upgrade or buy. When you have issues, and you will have issues, then you discover the real value of your dollar and why the balance in America is so f%@ked up.
